Festie Bestie

MIAD 2023-Senior Thesis Project

Never Festie Without a Bestie!

Festie Bestie is a service attempting to create a safer music festival. It aims to mitigate risk with a digital app that coincides with an environmental “safe space” installation housed on festival grounds, both storing bias-free resources. Festie Bestie caters to first time festival goers with a mobile app that guides and prepares for a music festival with features such as a schedule generator, panic button, interactive map, survival guide, wellness reminders, and so much more.

Music festivals have created some of the best memories of my life. You get to be in a high energy environment while witnessing live performances by your favorite artists, but that’s not without fault. Music festivals have a high risk and sometimes an overwhelming environment, especially for first time festival goers. Dangers such as theft, substance usage, sexual assault, separation, and others find ways to ruin the excitement of an otherwise great experience.

The App.

The Safe Space.

The Festie Bestie Safe Space is designed to pose as festival resource for when an app simply isn’t enough. Also Storing bias-free educational info, this space will provide drug safety testing kits, a lounge for when a break is necessary, a safe place to easily report a crimes such as theft & sexual assault, a sensory booth and more.

If your mobile device is dead/not working you can check in and send your besties a location notification while you charge up. The Festie Bestie Team will also be able to retrieve any of your accounts info to keep your festival seamless if you do happen to get separated from your device. Fuel up on survival kit must haves such as sunscreen, water, over-the-counter pain-reliever, earplugs, sunglasses, hats, etc.

The Merch.

To further amplify my brand I created some ‘Swag’. A bucket hat to stay protected from the sun, a festival approved fanny pack to carry your essentials, and some t-shirts. I made use of an embroidery machine to create logo patches to apply to both. I later had to go back in by hand to get complete accuracy after machine mishaps. I also embroidered directly on to a black shirt in my multi-color logo. I used a heat press on the yellow shirt to transfer infusible ink cut out by a cricket machine. Lastly, I printed supporting stickers as a take away to act as a form of advertisement at the thesis show.

The Process.
